Jim Massey, Sr. opened his first Jim Massey’s Cleaners in Montgomery, Alabama in 1941. In 1964, Jim Massey, Jr. joined the company after graduating from the University of Alabama.

Between 1960 and 1969, we diversified into men’s formalwear rental, women’s bridal shops, coin-ops, and uniform rental. In 1977 we sold the uniform rental and by 1979 we had phased out all coin-ops. In 1980 Jim Massey, Jr. became President and CEO of the company. In 1986, we purchased Tant and Tant Formalwear in Birmingham, Alabama. We added drycleaning to the operation and expanded Tant and Tant from 4 stores to 9 stores and then sold them in 1989.

Jim Massey, Jr. was joined by Jim Massey, III in 1987 and John Massey in 1990 after they graduated from the University of Alabama. Jim’s responsibilities include overseeing all plant operations and John is responsible for all store operations.

We moved into our new 50,000 square foot central plant in March of 1996. We currently serve 28 stores, 3 home delivery routes, 6 tuxedo stores, and 2 bridal shops from the plant.

Montgomery, Alabama is our primary market, but we serve 8 other cities from Birmingham, Alabama to the panhandle of Florida.
